SALVATION:

  • BY GRACE ALONE
  • THROUGH FAITH ALONE
  • IN CHRIST ALONE
  • ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE ALONE
  • FOR GOD'S GLORY ALONE

The Bible is exceedingly clear.  Salvation is a gift from God we receive through faith in Jesus as defined in the Bible for God's glory.  Men have been trying to change this truth for millennia to their own destruction.  Let's see what the Bible says.

BY FAITH ALONE:

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. ~ John 6:47

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ~ John 3:16

To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.” ~ Acts 10:43

So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”  ~ Acts 16:31

Then He said to the woman, “Your
faith has saved you. Go in peace.” ~ Luke 7:50

For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. ~ 1 Corinthians 1:21

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and
believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. ~ Romans 10:9-10

In Him you also
trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, ~ Ephesians 1:13

Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the
gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. ~ 1 Corinthians 15:1-2

What is the common thread that runs through these six verses?  Of course it's faith. Believing in Jesus is what saves.  Do you see any mention of good works, baptism, confirmation or communion? Those things aren't there.  When Jesus said he who believes in Me has everlasting life, did he forget to mention good works?  Of course not.  Being God, Jesus knew what He was doing.  If good works are necessary for salvation, then God is misleading you through omission.  Now let's look at how the Bible rejects works as being necessary for salvation.

NOT OF WORKS

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. ~ Ephesians 2:8-9

knowing that a man is
not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. ~ Galatians 2:16

But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, ~ Titus 3:4-5

Therefore we conclude that a man is
justified by faith
apart from the deeds [works] of the law. ~ Romans 3:28

But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,  just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works: ~ Romans 4:5-6

and be found in Him,
not having my own righteousness [which I earn through works], which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; ~ Philippians 3:9

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood [not our works], we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies [not doing any works to please God] we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. ~ Romans 5:8-10

Over and over the Bible adamantly rejects the idea that you must work to be saved. Over and over the Bible reaffirms salvation is by faith in Jesus as a gift from God, given freely without works by us.  God saves us while we're in open rebellion, while we were His enemies, doing nothing to earn His love and sacrifice.  You cannot come to believe you must earn your salvation by works by reading the Bible.  Don't let anyone lie to you and endanger your eternity.  Priests, Imams and false teachers cannot override God's word.  God saves people before they've done anything other than believe in the Lord Jesus Christ when they come to realize their own sinfulness.  May God receive all the glory.
