5. How Can I Be Saved?

God upholds perfect Justice. Forgiveness of sin requires a sinless blood sacrifice. Once you sin, you are forever disqualified from being that sacrifice and you are trapped in an inescapable catch-22.

and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

~ Hebrews 9:22

You can’t save yourself. No amount of good works or rule-keeping will save you. Good works cannot erase past sins.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. ~ Ephesians 2:8-9

Only God can save you. False gods cannot save you.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. ~ John 14:6

That is why Jesus, who is God, came down to earth to live the perfect life you and I couldn’t live.

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

~ 2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus shed His sinless blood on the cross to pay for your sins. If you will repent and place your full faith and trust in Him, you will receive forgiveness and eternal life.

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.  In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.  In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

~ 1 John 4:8-10

After his death, Jesus was buried but He rose again on the third day forever defeating sin and death.

who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification. ~ Romans 4:25

Jesus’ death on the cross is a free gift.  There is nothing for you to do but to respond to His offer of salvation by repenting of your sins and trusting in Jesus.

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel. ~ Mark 1:15

Salvation comes by repenting from your sins and believing in Jesus.  This can only happen when you are born again.

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

~ John 3:3

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ~ John 3:16

He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”~ John 3:36

What is True Repentance?

Repentance is agreeing with what God says about you; that you have sinned. It is admitting that you knowingly violated God’s law; that you overrode the conscience which God gifted to you.

True repentance then compels you to turn from sin and turn to God for help to never sin again. It is a declaration of war against sin; one that continues to the day you die. While you will never be perfect in this life, you will never be comfortable with sin. Two good gauges of whether you’ve truly repented are whether you are disgusted by the sins you’ve committed and whether you are actively struggling against sin.

For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.  Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight — that You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge. ~ Psalm 51:3-4

What is True Belief?

Believing in Jesus means you fully trust in Him, and Him alone, to save you because you understand that no one else has ever paid for your sins. You stop trying to save yourself by your good works. Because you are born again, you naturally want to obey your Lord, Jesus. A herd of buffalo won’t be able to stop you from going to church.  You won’t feel like you’ve GOT to read your Bible but rather you GET to read your Bible. You will now do good works BECAUSE you are saved and NOT IN ORDER to get saved. You will be radically changed and everyone around you will know it.

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. ~ Romans 10:9

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. ~ Hebrews 11:1

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

~ 2 Corinthians 5:17

Ask and You Shall Receive

God wants you to know Him.  Seek Him by Faith.  Pray to Him in your own words – from a broken heart – knowing that you’ve offended a holy God. Ask Him to forgive you of all your sins. Determine to follow Jesus as your Lord and Savior from this day forward. Trust in His finished work.  When God saves you, He will make you into a new creation. He will change you from the inside out.  When He saves you, you will know it and others will know it.

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. ~  Jeremiah 29:13

Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. ~ Psalm 50:15
